Made famous for its spices and the slave trade of the 19th century, Zanzibar Island is much more than a stopping point on an itinerary, and can be seen as a destination in itself. What the island offers is a unique combination of outstanding beaches, along its eastern edge, interesting activities, such as visiting a working spice farm, and the cultural delights of Stone Town, with Arabian fortresses and minarets.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Zanzibar

We welcome you to the exotic beauty of Zanzibar and immediately whisk you away to your retreat at the Park Hyatt Hotel (stone town). Overnight at Park Hyatt Hotel (stone town).(dinner at your own discretion).

Day 2: Stone Town Tour

Step into history and cultural riches on a tour through Zanzibar's Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage City. Your walk through the past begins at the House of Wonders, a 19th century ceremonial palace. Proceed to the Palace Museum, a former Sultan's resident, before stopping in at the Arab Fort, Dr Livingstone House and Hamamni Persian baths. The afternoon is yours to enjoy in town or at the hotel. As orange and pink sweep wide brushstrokes over the blue sky, your sunset cruise departs for the Stone Town waterfront. A stop at Forodhani Gardens offers a glance into the town's merry nightlife before you depart for other cultural stops: a former slave market, the imposing Cathedral Church of Christ (circa 1874), the Sultan's Palace, and more. Dinner is your choice. Overnight and breakfast at Park Hyatt Hotel (stone town).

Day 3: Spice Tour and the Jozani Forest

Dive into the savoury world of Zanzibar's spices, on a spice tour through Kizimbani Village. Gentle ocean breezes carry with them the scent of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper – a blend that has earned this region the moniker of the Spice Islands. For centuries, these islands have cultivated forty of the most valuable tropical spices and today, you'll have a chance to sift, sniff, and sample their heady flavours.

Your spicy morning transitions to an exhilarating jaunt to the Jozani Forest, part of Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park and home to rare red colobus monkeys, bush babies, Sykes monkeys, as well as 40 bird species and 50 types of butterfly. Scenic mangrove forest and dense foliage introduce a side of Tanzania rarely explored: surrounded by lush and moist rainforest, you are far from the sun-cracked savannahs and parched grasslands of inland Tanzania. Later, transferred to your beach hotel on the East Coast. Dinner and overnight at Neptune Pwani Hotel.

Day 4 & 5: Karafuu Beach Hotel

Gone are structured days and active mornings: leisure and luxury are yours at the Karafuu Beach Hotel, one of Zanzibar's most exclusive beach resorts. Go swimming with dolphins; scuba dive the island's extensive coral reefs; lounge in the sparkling pool. Book a spa treatment. Or simply do nothing at all… Zanzibar holds as much or as little to do as you desire. Breakfasts, dinners and overnights at Karafuu Beach Hotel.

Day 6: Departure

After breakfast, transfer to the Zanzibar Airport for your flight home.
